Pride Goeth Before The Fall

Hi My name is PRIDE:
I am a cheater.
I cheat you of your God-given destiny because you demand your own way.
I cheat you of contentment because you deserve better than this.
I cheat you of knowledge because you already know it all.
I cheat you of healing because you're too full of me to forgive.
I cheat you of holiness because you refuse to admit when you're wrong.
I cheat you of vision because you'd rather look in the mirror than out a window.
I cheat you of genuine friendship because nobody's going to know the real you.
I cheat you of love because real romance demands sacrifice.
I cheat you of greatness in heaven because you refuse to wash another's feet on earth.

  1. First I would like to introduce my self; I am a student of philosophy, religious studies, and theology. By no means have I finished all of my degrees, but that is the one I am currently traveling. I am majoring in Philosophy, and plan to minor in religious studies, and then on to Seminary for a degree in theology. I enjoy a good dialectic so I will most be a bit frustrating even though I probably agree with the thing I am arguing. It is just I feel sometimes we get to a telos sooner that way, and It is usually a good thing to try and look at things from a different vantage point. Also I sometimes go off on tangents.
I think Eric really has a point here. There are many people that are prideful, and that pride really gets in the way of some one trying to profess their love of God and follow that through. Before I get into a debate about pride, as it was amoral before the renaissance and afterwards you find pride becoming something good. At the renaissance and the enlightenment, things and moralities seemed to do a one 180 degree turn. But like I said I did not want to start another debate, and must stick to this one.
But I think it really is a pride thing. There are some that would worry what others would think, or how they may act. Swallow that pride, there were many Christians that were persecuted in the arenas of Rome, which lived and died for professing they were Christians and instead of worrying about your pride being hurt, be proud of the hurt. Remember what is said in Revelations 3:16 “So, because you are lukewarm--neither hot nor cold--I am about to spit you out of my mouth.” Choose your side and be happy and proud. And as the scripture Eric gave, about fearing the lord. Don’t be scared of earthy human beings, and do not love something more than the Lord, and be proud of that fact.
But here’s the thing with pride, in doing so act accordingly. Pride is like a drug, and as it is good to be proud of the lord, but a little pride goes a long way. As we read in Mathew 6:1-4 “Take heed that ye do not your righteousness before men, to be seen of them: else ye have no reward with your Father who is in heaven. 6:2When therefore thou doest alms, sound not a trumpet before thee, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory of men. Verily I say unto you, they have received their reward. 6:3But when thou doest alms, let not thy left hand know what thy right hand doeth: 6:4that thine alms may be in secret: and thy Father who seeth in secret shall recompense thee...
That is my favorite passage. Be proud and do things, and let those actions show the goodness in you. Do not worry about telling people how good you are, do well. As a philosopher I worry about what is good all day every day. Remember that Gods rules are better (as the scripture Eric gave told us earlier) than any earthly laws. Do what is in your heart, and love the lord.
